UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi will again lay the foundation stone of the Manali Ladakh tunnel project. Defence minister A.K. Antony will accompany her.

In 2002, then prime minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee had first laid the foundation stone for the project. The 9km horse shoe shaped tunnel would enable civilians and the Armed Forces access to the border areas of Ladakh.

TUESDAY

VICEPRESIDENT Mohammad Hamid Ansari will confer National Statistical Awards on the occasion of the Statistics Day at Vigyan Bhavan. Minister for coal, statistics and programme implementation Sriprakash Jaiswal and chairman of National Statistical Commission R. Radhakrishna will also be present.

THURSDAY

THE SECOND meet of the newly constituted second National Advisory Council, which is expected to set the social agenda for the Congress led United Progressive Alliance, will take place.

In this meeting, the council is likely to take up the draft of food security Bill.

THE COMMERCE ministry will formally release the trade data for May.

Provisional data released by the commerce secretary Rahul Khullar earlier this month showed exports grew 35% in the same month.

FRIDAY

CONFEDERATION OF Indian Industry will organize a national seminar on water resource management and mining sector in India.

The chief guests for the seminar include secretary (mines), ministry of coal and mines Santha Sheela Nair and chairman of Central Ground Water Board B.M. Jha, among others.
